  • About Ran Shapira
  • Born and raised in Jerusalem, Israel, I grew up surrounded by a menagerie of faces, sites, sounds, and cultures. I have a passion for human beauty, and from the time that I was 10 years old and got my first camera as a gift from my parents, I've known my path and real happiness in life.

Over the years, I've trained and worked to become an expert photographer, and combined with my background in fine arts and exhibitions, I offer work with a truly creative and personalized edge. Through my extensive experience, and sensitive eye for capturing moments and fine compositions, I bring a distinctive quality to the weddings I shoot, but always capture your story.

I combine a photo-journalistic style with posed portraits to capture memories of emotion, beauty, humor, and loved ones. I use my skills and attention to detail from our first meeting and throughout the wedding day, as well as with post-production work, and the design of your albums and prints.

I'm based out of the City of Angels, but also shoot for clients across the US and international locations.

Most of all, I love working with couples, planning on how best to capture a superb photographic memory of one of the most important days in your life as a couple, and I'm honored to share in the event.

How far in advance should we book the wedding day with you?

Booking a year in advance is advisable, especially for peak months like April/May/June - the calendar gets booked up quickly! Also, I highly recommend a sit-down meeting prior to booking, but meetings over the phone and Skype are fine, too.

What do your packages look like?

I believe that a couple should set aside worries during their wedding or event day, and not have to think about hours or payments: I come prepared in advance, after planning together, and do all the work for you. The best method is to start the day with you and end after the last guest is gone; you will be covered for the entire day without looking at the clock even once. Also, I recommend that we arrange an engagement shoot before the wedding day, which helps us to get to know each other and makes the wedding day shoot that much more relaxed, joyful, and personalized.

What are your recommendations for style and types of picture?

I believe in balancing photo-journalistic, candid shots, and portraits throughout the day - both for special moments from getting ready and small details, to your ceremony and the celebration afterward. Each individual frame, the lighting rendered, and the surrounding color palate help me determine black and white vs. color choices.

How much time do we need in order to get the best coverage?

I highly recommend dedicating 2-3 hours to getting ready and detail shots; 2-3 hours for bride, couple, family, and bridal/groom party portraits; 3-4 hours to ceremony and celebration shots: these are heirloom images that do require time to plan, shoot, and get just right. An all-day booking optimizes what images are captured, and makes the day more smooth and enjoyable for you. It's also important to remember that the only thing you will truly have left from your wedding day are your moments and memories captured in great images, and preserved in a quality album and prints.

How many pictures do you take throughout the day?

Usually it amounts to thousands of pictures, from which you should expect to have about eight hundred superb pictures. It takes about 3 weeks to get the entire collection of the wedding day pictures into an online gallery that's made especially for you. This gallery is also linked to a top-quality lab, making it easy to choose and order prints, forward the gallery to friends and family, and even print shirts and cups with your wedding portraits on them. Also, I work with several excellent album and photo-book makers, and will be happy to design the albums and books for you.

Are you available for destination weddings?

Yes, with prior planning I will be happy to travel and shoot wherever you wish.
